The Golden Era of Reading

Little Golden Books were introduced in 1942 when reading materials for children were expanding from the “classics” to shorter vibrant offerings. These high quality children’s books became available at an affordable price and were sold where ordinary people shopped every day. This changed the publishing world and won the hearts of the American children. Reminisce as we look back at the publishers, authors and illustrators who produced the literary phenomenon generations have enjoyed for 80 years.

Program presenters, Dale and Joan Prouty.

Dale and Joan are long time area educators and museum programmers who have enjoyed interacting with youth of all ages. They are charter members of the County School Association of America with both serving on the Board of Directors. They have presented at various local and national conferences. In retirement their interest in early American educational artifacts grew through visitations to various historic sites giving them the opportunity to note the great cariety of school curriculums, student slates and teaching aids that had been available to teachers and young scholars a century ago.
